Sachio Takeno, MD, PhD, is professor and chair of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in the Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences at Hiroshima University in Hiroshima, Japan.
Dr. Takeno obtained his MD degree from the Faculty of Medicine at Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan. He continued his medical training in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Hiroshima University Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, earning a PhD degree in medical science. He completed a research fellowship in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
As an allergology and rhinology specialist, Dr. Takeno has focused his research efforts on the pathogenesis of allergic and eosinophilic inflammation in the upper airway, the molecular biological study of eosinophilic rhinosinusitis, the pathogenesis of eosinophilic rhinosinusitis and development of new therapies, and the study of the functional role of nitric oxide in the upper airway. He has authored or coauthored more than 130 publications in his areas of interest.
Professional memberships include the Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Society of Japan, the Japanese Society of Allergology, the Japanese Rhinologic Society, and the Japanese Otological Society.
