Monika Gappa, MD, PhD, is Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Children’s Hospital, Evangelisches Krankenhaus Düsseldorf. She is the current President of the European Respiratory Society (ERS), as well as a member of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. Her main area of interest is pediatric respiratory physiology, particularly assessment of lung function, early origins of lung disease, severe asthma, and allergy.
Prof. Gappa was Associate Editor of Pediatric Pulmonology for several years and is on the editorial board for several respiratory journals, including the European Respiratory Journal. She has contributed to a number of ERS Task Forces, including serving as Chair of the HERMES Examination Committee, where she led the revision of the pediatric syllabus program and contributed to developing the ERS European diploma examinations. In 2020, she received the ERS Educational Award.
