Biography

Lisa A. Beck, MD, is the Goldsmith Professor of Dermatology, with secondary appointments in Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology (Medicine), and Pathology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY. She has had a longstanding interest in atopic dermatitis, and her laboratory was the first to demonstrate that the activation status of white blood cells or leukocytes affected their in vivo responsiveness to chemokines. More recently, her laboratory has been exploring the dynamic interaction between the epithelial skin barrier and the innate and adaptive immune systems. She was the first to describe and characterize epidermal tight junction defects in atopic dermatitis subjects.  

She is Co-Director of the URMC Center for Allergic Disease Research (CADR), which was recently chosen as one of four US centers with the World Allergy Organizations Center of Excellence designation. She has published over 180 research papers, 15 chapters or review articles, and 11 editorials, holds two patents and is the past President of the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID), as well as numerous awards and honorary memberships.
