Biography

Leonard B. Bacharier, MD, is the Janie Robinson and John Moore Lee Chair in Pediatrics and Director of the Center for Pediatric Asthma Research at Vanderbilt University, where he is Professor of Pediatrics, Allergy/Immunology/Pulmonary Medicine.  

Dr. Bacharier has devoted his career to research to help understand and improve the care of children with asthma. His clinical/translational research efforts are directed at the pathogenesis of asthma in early life and approaches to asthma management throughout childhood, including multicenter, federally funded clinical trials in asthma. He is the principal investigator on several NIH-sponsored clinical and translational studies. 

Dr. Bacharier is currently an associate editor for the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and a member of the GINA Science Committee. He has also served as Chair of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. 

Dr. Bacharier has served as the Principal Investigator of the St. Louis site of the NHBLI-funded AsthmaNet, a multicentered network exploring new approaches to asthma therapy in children and adults, as well as mechanistic studies exploring the pathobiology that underlies asthma. He was the lead investigator for the first two AsthmaNet clinical trials in the pediatric age group.
