Biography

Jonathan M. Spergel, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Chief of the Allergy Section at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and Director of the Center for Pediatric Eosinophilic Disorders at CHOP. He received his medical and graduate education at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His clinical and post-graduate research training in allergy and immunology were completed at Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston. Dr. Spergel is responsible for identifying a murine model of atopic march and atopic dermatitis, which is currently being used for multiple atopic diseases. His research interests have focused on all aspects of food allergy and atopic dermatitis.  

Dr. Spergel is a fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and a member of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the American Association of Pediatrics, the Philadelphia College of Physicians, and others. He is currently Deputy Editor for Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and has authored more than 250 articles and conducted more than 30 clinical trials in the field of allergy.
