Biography

Henrik Watz, MD, PhD, is the medical director at Velocity Clinical Research Grosshansdorf in Grosshansdorf, Germany and an associate professor at the University of Kiel in Kiel, Germany. He is also the coordinating investigator of TelementorCOPD at LungenClinic Grosshansdorf and the principal investigator of the German Center for Lung Research in Giessen, Germany.

Prof Watz obtained his medical degree at Justus Liebig University Giessen in Germany, followed by his doctoral degree with a thesis on HRCT and micro-CT of lung parenchyma in emphysema.

With a clinical interest in bronchiectasis, asthma, and COPD, Prof Watz has published over 200 articles on the topics. He is the recipient of numerous scientific awards, including the Journal Reviewer Award from the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and the Clinical Research Award from the German Society for Pneumology for his publication on predictors of all-cause mortality in COPD patients.

Prof Watz is a founding member of the Collaboration In COPD Exacerbations (CICERO); a member of the COPD Biomarker Qualification Consortium; and on the Board of Chairs for the German Respiratory League and the German Association for Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
