Biography

Enno Schmidt, MD, PhD, received his medical degree having studied at the University of Würzburg, Würzburg, Germany, at St. Bartholomew’s Medical College, London, UK, and the University of Cape Town, RSA. He did his PhD at the Department of Biotechnology, University of Würzburg. Dr. Schmidt is board certified in dermatology and venereology, allergology, dermatopathology, and immunology. He is Full Professor at the University of Lübeck and Director of the Lübeck Institute of Experimental Dermatology as well as senior consultant at the Department of Dermatology, University of Lübeck, Germany. Dr. Schmidt is best known for his work on inflammatory dermatoses, in particular autoimmune blistering diseases. His scientific work focusses on the epidemiology, diagnosis and pathophysiology of latter disorders. Dr. Schmidt has developed several diagnostic assays for these disease and established animal models for pemphigus, bullous pemphigoid, and mucous membrane pemphigoid. His research on autoimmune blistering diseases has been funded by the German Research Foundation, the European Community, and numerous other agencies and companies. Dr. Schmidt has published more than 400 articles and book chapters in e.g. Rook’s Textbook of Dermatology and The Lancet. He is chair of the EADV task force on Autoimmune blistering disorders and member of the European Dermatology Forum
