Claus Bachert, MD, PhD, received his medical training from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and trained in ENT diseases and allergology in Mannheim and Düsseldorf. His research interests include the pathophysiology and management of diseases of the nose and sinuses, such as allergic and non-allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis with and without nasal polyps. Specifically, he has worked on endotyping rhinosinusitis, developing innovative treatments, such as biologics for recalcitrant disease, and researching the role of Staphylococcus aureus in the inflammation of nasal polyp disease.
Professor Bachert has published more than 700 peer-reviewed articles in international journals. He has received several national and international prizes and two honorary doctorate degrees (from Capital University in Beijing, China, and Democritus University in Thrace, Greece). He has been actively involved in the development of the Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma international guidelines and the European Position Paper on Sinusitis and Nasal Polyposis, has served on the board of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and the World Allergy Organization, and has served as president and vice president of the German Allergy Society, as well as associate editor of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
