Biography

Amber Luong, MD, PhD, is a professor in the department of otorhinolaryngology and the vice chair for academic affairs at the McGovern Medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, TX. Dr Luong earned her medical degree and her PhD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, where she also completed an internship and an otorhinolaryngology residency, which she followed with an otorhinolaryngology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH.

Dr Luong’s research interests are centered around the pathophysiology of chronic rhinosinusitis and the role that the innate immune response plays in it, as well as how environmental fungi prompts the innate immune response. Through her research, she has coauthored over 110 publications, including peer-reviewed articles in journals such as the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and Science, as well as book chapters. Additionally, she has received funding for her research from institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy, and the Triological Society, and is also currently participating in multiple industry-sponsored multicenter clinical trials. Dr Luong also actively serves as the president of the American Rhinologic Society and is also an associate editor for the International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology.
