Biography

Alexandra Papadopoulou, MD, is chief of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the First Department of Pediatrics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Athens, Greece, and head of the Gastroenterology Department at the Children’s Hospital Agia Sofia in Athens. Her research interests include inflammatory bowel disease, erosive and eosinophilic esophagitis, and eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders beyond the esophagus, and she is principal investigator of multiple ongoing studies.  

Dr. Papadopoulou is a longtime member of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) and a founding member of the Hellenic Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. She is chair of the ESPGHAN Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases Working Group and coordinator of the joint ESPGHAN/North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Guidelines on Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders. In Greece, she has been actively involved in important initiatives of the Hellenic Ministry of Health, including serving as a member of the National Nutrition Committee and the Central Board of Health’s Working Group on Pediatrics. With more than 100 journal publications to her name, she has also co-authored over 20 position papers/guidelines on a wide spectrum of topics in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition.
