Alain Schoepfer, MD, is head of the outpatient clinic of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) in Lausanne, Switzerland, and an associate professor in the Faculty of Biology and Medicine at the University of Lausanne. As a clinician researcher, with a primary interest in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), he has been involved in studies on standardization of assessment of EoE disease activity, its natural history, and therapy studies. He has served as principal investigator of the Swiss EoE Cohort Study, which currently follows more than 600 adults with EoE in a longitudinal way. Together with an international team, he has developed and validated the EoE activity index (EEsAI) patient-reported outcome instrument that has been used in multiple clinical trials.
Dr. Schoepfer is a former president of EUREOS, the European association for the study of EoE, and heads the Swiss Network for Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases. He has served as a member of the Scientific Board and Executive Committee of the Swiss IBD Cohort Study and as a member of the Executive Board of the Swiss IBDnet. He is the author or co-author of more than 150 articles, several book chapters, and over 300 abstracts.
