Discover how atopic dermatitis can be a risk for the development of food allergies.
Higher prevalence of food allergies in children with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) may be attributed to the heightened permeability of their skin barrier, facilitating easier allergen penetration and subsequent type 2 immune responses. In this video presentation, Peter Lio, MD, elaborates on the potential involvement of type 2 inflammation in driving food allergies among this group of children, and highlights the importance of early intervention in managing the disease to potentially avert the development of food allergies in those with AD.
