Biography

Marcus Maurer, MD, is a Professor of Dermatology and Allergy, Head of Dermatological Allergology and Director of Research at the Department of Dermatology and Allergy and the Allergie-Centrum-Charité, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Board-certified, he has been a full professor at Charité since 2005. 

He is a highly respected researcher and clinician in the field of urticaria. He is the coordinator of the GA²LEN urticaria centers of reference and excellence (UCARE) network, a network of European centers dedicated to improving the diagnosis and treatment of urticaria. He is also the coordinator of the National Priority Program “Physiological functions of mast cells”, which is a research program that is funded by the German government. Prof. Maurer is the Chair of the WAO skin allergy committee, which is the committee of the World Allergy Organization that is responsible for urticaria. He has published over 784 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and has been cited over 36,000 times. He has also authored or co-authored 55 books and book chapters.
