Thomas Greuter

Biography

Thomas Greuter, MD, eMBA, is a professor of gastroenterology and hepatology at Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, Switzerland. He is also head of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Ospedale Regionale di Lugano-L'Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale, also in Lugano, and an adjunct consultant at University Hospital Lausanne CHUV in Lausanne, Switzerland. 

 

After earning his medical degree from the University of Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland, Prof Greuter when on to complete his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, United States. Following, Prof Greuter obtained sub-specializations in interventional endoscopy and in hepatology. Prof Greuter also holds an executive Master of Administration from the University of Zurich. 

 

With clinical interests in long-term management of eosinophilic esophagitis, irritable bowel disease, and ulcerative colitis, Prof Greuter has presented on the topics at both the national and international levels. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including United European Gastroenterology Journal, Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology, International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, and The American Journal of Gastroenterology, and he was a contributor to the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization Guidelines on inflammatory bowel disease and malignancies; extraintestinal manifestations in inflammatory bowel disease; and the prevention, diagnosis, and management of infections in inflammatory bowel disease.

 

Prof Greuter serves as the chair of the Swiss Eosinophilic Esophagitis Cohort Study’s Scientific Committee and sits on the board of trustees for the EoE Foundation. He is a member of the American Gastroenterology Association, European Society of Eosinophilic Esophagitis, Swiss Society of Gastroenterology, and Swiss Association for the Study of the Liver.
