Biography

Edoardo Vincenzo Savarino, MD, PhD, is an associate professor of gastroenterology the University of Padua Medical and Surgical School in Padua, Italy. He is also the head of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre; the Clinical Trial IBD Centre; and the Motility Laboratory at the medical school.

 

Dr Savarino earned his medical degree from the University of Genoa – Medicine and Surgery Faculty in Genoa, Italy, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in internal medicine, immunology, and gastroenterology. After finishing his doctoral studies, Dr Savarino completed a postgraduate degree in gastroenterology and endoscopy where he studied the relationship between gastro-oesophageal reflux and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.  

 

An expert in inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, and microbiota in health and disease, Dr Savarino has published more than 650 peer-reviewed scientific publications on the topics. As the principal or secondary investigator of nearly 700 trials, many of his research projects have received funding, including his two most recent studies, “ECCO Grant: Decoding the Neuroimmune Crosstalk in Inflammatory Bowel Disease” and “Tofacitinib in Ulcerative Colitis: extra-intestinal manifestation IBD-related and safety.” Dr Savarino is also a peer reviewer for multiple international journals, including Gut, American Journal Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine, and Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

 

Dr Savarino is a member of and reviewer for the Committee of Italian Group of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He is also a member of the European Society of Digestive Oncology; Società Italiana Endoscopia Digestiva; and Gruppo Italiano di Studio Motilità Apparato Digerente.
