Dr. André Hörning is a pediatrician, pediatric gastroenterologist and hepatologist, and certified specialist immunologist at the Clinic for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the University Hospital Erlangen, in Erlangen, Germany. He serves as Senior and Managing Consultant and leads a research group focusing on experimental and translational immunology in childhood.
Dr. Hörning studied Human Medicine at the University of Münster, Germany, where he also completed his doctoral degree. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California San Diego and at Harvard University in Boston, USA. In 2015, he completed his habilitation, focusing on mechanisms of immune regulation and the effects of immunosuppressive therapies following organ transplantation. He was appointed Adjunct Professor at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen–Nürnberg in 2022. His research focuses on transplantation immunology, immune tolerance, and immunological alterations in chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (IBD and eosinophilic esophagitis) and liver in children, combining experimental models with translational clinical research. Dr. Hörning is principal investigator of several multicenter clinical trials and actively involved in mentoring early-career researchers.
